It’s January and chilly, so here’s a warm, new Mallercast episode:
We talk about the iPhone’s 10th birthday, and Alexa’s popularity…
Where were you when the iPhone was first announced? Do you remember? Do you care? It happened 10 years ago this week, and the anniversary made a lot of people nostalgic. Myself included. So, we talked about it on the show.
Remember, you are reading the new “article-esque” version of the show notes. It’s not easy to turn podcast show notes into a linear article, but darn it, I’m gunna try.
This week a little girl in Dallas, Texas asked her parent’s Amazon Echo if it could “…play dollhouse with me and get me a dollhouse?” Her parents learned about this interaction when a $149 KidKraft Sparkle mansion doll house was delivered to ther front door. It sounds innocent enough, but then 4 pounds of sugar cookies also arrived.
A TV news station in San Diego aired a story about this incident, and an anchor said
“I love the little girl saying “Alexa ordered me a dollhouse.” Many Echo owners watching said that quote triggered Alexa to order one for them.
It’s just a weird and wacky time in voice computing, folks. Be careful out there.
