When you shoot a video, you should always record the sound separately with an audio recorder. It sounds drastically better and is definitely worth the extra effort. It’s not very difficult to do. If you use Final Cut Pro, this is how sync externally recorded audio files with your video footage.

Step 1 – Import both your video footage and audio recordings into Final Cut Pro.

Step 2 – In the “Browser” section of Final Cut Pro, locate the video clip and audio recording that you want to sync.

Step 3 – Click on either the video or audio clip to highlight it. Then scroll down to the other clip and press and hold down the Command key on your keyboard, then click on the other clip. This allows you to highlight both clips.

Step 4 – Press and hold down the Control key on your keyboard, then click on one of the clips. This opens up a little pop-up menu next to where you clicked. Select “Synchronize Clips” from this menu.

Step 5 – A window will then open that allows you to give the new synchronized clip a name. I recommend taking a moment to change the name a bit, so you can find it in Final Cut Pro’s browser more easily. Also, make sure the two check boxes are checked, then click the OK button.

Step 6 – Your new synced video clip with then appear in Final Cut Pro’s browser. This step isn’t really a step, because you’re finished! Go ahead and play the new clip to make sure it worked properly.

Thanks for checking out this post! I hope it was helpful!
